Demographic Data
Our new reality in Baltimore
From 2010 to 2019, the number of speakers of other languages grew from 52,594 (9% of the population 5 years of age and older) to 56,188 (almost 10% of the total population 5 years of age and older). While that growth may seem modest, the City’s overall population declined by approximately 20,000 during that same period. This parallels national trends: Immigrants reinvigorate urban areas and mitigate population loss in post-industrial cities. To enhance the positive impact of immigrant communities on Baltimore and further mitigate population loss, City agencies can make Baltimore an even more Welcoming City by providing language access services.
